In Loving Memory of Theodor Giles

Theodor (Theo) Giles was a member of the FTC team SteelHead and a founding member of our FRC team A05 Annex, and he was in the graduate class at HRVHS in 2019. He was studying at the Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) and was in the final years of his degree in environmental science before he unexpectedly passed away on November 27th, 2022. Those that knew him would know him for his dedicated hard work, passion for engineering, and desire to solve the climate crisis. Outside of academics, he would be described as compassionate and an ally to all, frequently saying the message “Love one another.”

RIP Theo, We Will Miss you
Love, A05 Annex

“Theo's transformation from a bold brilliant tech guy to a concerned, thoughtful citizen set on making the world a better place was one of the highlights of my time in robotics. When we first met, we fought...a lot, but post grad he was one of the only people I stayed in touch with. We would talk about permaculture, politics, and social justice, just interacting when moments moved us. I am deeply saddened to not have him along my side in the fight for a better future and more sustainable food practices.”

“You will be missed! Thank you for all the laughs, comfort, and happiness you brought to me and the team. I will never forget the warmth and happiness we both felt when we made it to worlds our senior year of highschool, and the excitement that we built throughout our four years of robotics together. You always made me feel comfortable and a part of the team.”

“Theo always managed to brighten my day. Working with him on Steelhead, he brought this energy no one else had. I remember theo sitting behind me in Mandarin class always making jokes. Theo also gave me some of the best advice and helped me out a lot.”

“Theo is one of the smartest, funniest, and most loving people I have ever met. It’s so sad to hear that he is gone and I will always remember him as a great friend. <3”

“Theos senior year of highschool we went to states as a robotics team. Theo let the whole team crash at his place in Portland and it was a night full of memories. Our robot was in complete disrepair and so we had to stay up all night tweaking it. I remember just being around Theo was so enjoyable as he just brought such good energy to the room. At the time, I was exhausted and anxious but looking back now I realize this was one of the best nights of my life. Theo taught me how to program and helped me so much throughout the years, his impact could not be understated. I was so happy for him when he switched his major to something that he truly loved. He was a loving, brilliant, and compassionate human. I will miss him a lot.”
